Saint Susanna Church (Mason, OH)
Worship Centers

This 42,000 square foot, two story church utilizes three different structural framing systems. The entry roof is composed of exposed glue lamiated timber framing. The connections are concealed for aesthetics and the beam sizes were coordinated with the architect to provide the designed proportions. The roof above the 32,800 square foot sanctuary is framed with steel truss frames in a radial configuration. Steel barjoist infills between the trusses. The floor of the sanctuary is sloping steel beams and precast concrete planks with a tapered topping to create a conical floor surface. The remainder of the building is framed with concrete precast roof planks supported on concrete masonry walls. The site slope necessitated a fourteen foot tall retaining wall along one side of the building.
