Structural Engineering For Historic Preservation Apartment Building

Our team provided structural engineering services for the redevelopment of 1607 Race Street in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Originally constructed in 1871, the building had been declared a public nuisance and was at risk of collapse before the redevelopment project began.

Designed by architect Heather Estridge and built by Kaiker Construction, the project involved structural stabilization of the existing building, a new front facade, a new fire escape, and a completely new interior finish package to convert the structure into residential apartments.

The structure’s condition presented significant challenges throughout the process. The first floor framing system had deteriorated to the point that a complete reframing was required before the interior renovation could move forward.
