Why Did You Become a Structural Engineer?
Growing up in a family of structural engineers and architects, Mike knew he was interested in a career in structural engineering from a young age. His early fascination with the lifecycle of buildings – from conceptualization on paper to tangible structures – led him to pursue this field. Initially working in transportation-focused structural engineering, he wanted a new challenge and transitioned to building design, particularly with high-end residential homes. A mutual contact referred him to Pinnacle Engineering, marking the start of a new chapter.
What is it like Working at Pinnacle Engineering?
Mike’s typical day at Pinnacle Engineering combines variety and challenge. His tasks range from office-based project focus to on-site client interactions. In addition to high-end residential projects, he often handles stabilization inspections in historic buildings, providing solutions for revitalization projects.
This smart structural solution project work is one of Mike’s favorite aspects of working at Pinnacle Engineering.
Currently, he is involved in high-end residential projects across the U.S., including in Arizona, Idaho, and locally in Cincinnati, OH.
One notable project is a custom 7,500-square-foot residence in Idaho featuring heavy timber frame trusses and design elements, such as 25-foot vaulted ceilings and unique hammer-beam timber trusses. This project, like others, requires innovative solutions beyond standard structural recommendations, due to the designer’s unique vision.
